About
Sumo Sensei

Sumo is more than just a sport to me; it is a living tradition that I have been fascinated by for as long as I can remember. I started these tours because I wanted to help international visitors experience the same excitement and depth that I feel at every tournament. My goal is to bridge the gap between ancient ritual and modern spectatorship, offering a professional yet friendly guide through the history, rankings, and rules so you can truly appreciate the heart of sumo.

Why I Started Sumo Sensei

I believe that sumo is much more than a sport; it is a living history. My philosophy is to bridge the gap between watching and understanding. During our time together, I’ll explain the significance of the salt-throwing, the meaning of the referee’s colorful robes, and the specific rules that govern each high-stakes match. By sharing these stories and cultural nuances, I help you move beyond being a spectator and invite you to truly experience the discipline and spirit of Japan’s national sport.

Why I Continue To Do This

I have always felt a deep pull toward the power and tradition of sumo. It’s a world I’ve loved for a long time, but I realized that for many international visitors, it can feel like a closed book. I started Sumo Sensei because I wanted to be the person who helps you open it. My goal is to move beyond the spectacle and help you understand the history and rituals that make every match so meaningful.

There is an incredibly rewarding feeling that comes with guiding someone and seeing them move from being a curious spectator to someone who truly cares about what’s happening in the ring. Seeing that genuine spark of interest is exactly why I keep doing this. For me, it isn’t just about the sport—it’s about helping you connect with the heart of a culture I feel lucky to share and that smile I get to see on my guests faces when they see why the sport is so amazing and they can appreciate every aspect of it.

In the end, I just want you to walk away feeling like you really know sumo. This isn't about marketing or checked boxes; it’s about a simple, sincere love for this tradition and the hope that you’ll find that same connection during our time together.
